Vets will decide to focus their skills on large or small animals. Some will work exclusively at a surgery whilst others will attend farm animals in loco as well as in a surgery. The range of work is extensive involving inspecting hygiene and care standards in zoos, kennels, catteries, riding stables, pet shops, cattle markets and abattoirs. Some vets will work full time for the government, specialising in the control of animal deceases and protecting public health; others may specialise surgery-based at animal hospitals.
